• Why do users need to go through the account activation step?

  Account activation helps deter creation of fake accounts. There is nothing that prevents a person or a bot from signing up using someone else's email address. If a fake account is created, it cannot be activated by the abuser because only the owner of the email address will receive the activation code.

• How does activation work?

  1. After signing up, new users receive an email with an account activation link. The link includes a time-sensitive cryptographically secured token.
  2. Clicking the link brings the user to the account activation page. Users click the "Activate" button on that page and the account activation step is complete.
  3. In case of an expired or invalid tokens, the account activation page will not work and the user will need to request a new token.
